ROBOTS IN LOVE! -- MAY 25 | 2:30PM | FREDDY'S

This month Obsolete Cinema salutes our mechanical brethren with a double dose of saccharine-sweet sagas: the legendary SHORT CIRCUIT and HEARTBEEPS. WARNING: These films are not for the faint of heart. Barf bags will be distributed at the door.

‘Number 5 is Alive!’ In the original SHORT CIRCUIT (1986), a military-industrial drone struck by lightning is given the mystical gift (or curse?) of life and emotion. Who better to usher him into our tangled world than omnipresent Obsolete fave Steve Guttenberg, Ally Sheedy, and not-quite-Indian Fisher Stevens!

Then sit tight for HEARTBEEPS (1981), starring the one and only Andy Kaufman and perpetually cute Bernadette Peters in full foam robot-face. The pair portray ‘domestic servant’ robots that escape their factory shelves for the big, scary, real world, with Randy Quaid and the Crimebuster cop-bot hot on their tails.

It’s all happening at Freddy’s Bar & Backroom, with trivia, prizes and amazing Happy Hour happiness! Does that compute?
