Left, right, red, blue — it doesn’t matter what side you’re on, we can all agree that this election cycle is a HorrowShow. This month, join us for a ticket that’ll make you feel better (or worse) about the 2016 presidential race.
First up is THEY LIVE (1988), John Carpenter’s paranoiac classic in which the entire human race is the other 99%. Mysterious drifter Nada (‘Rowdy’ Roddy Piper) discovers an alien race is numbing us into subconscious submission — and he has the sunglasses to prove it. Asses get kicked, and no bubblegum gets chewed. If you’ve never seen this film, you’re probably one of Them!
Then, it’s Mike Judge’s all-too-prescient IDIOCRACY (2006), a Rip van Winkle tale that might be the playbook of the Trump campaign. After waking from cryogenic slumber, ”Average” Joe (Luke Wilson) has the unfortunate status of being the smartest person in a stupid future led by a machine gun-wielding, electrolyte-drinking, former pro-wrestling president. It’ll leave you asking yourself, “Is this real life?” #davidafterdentist
