Slap on that SpF 70 sunscreen and grab yer umbrella chairs! This month we’re heading to the beach with two oily beau-hunks of cinema — Johns Cusack and Candy!
First up is ‘Savage’ Steve Holland’s loonier bookend of his twin Cusack masterpieces, ONE CRAZY SUMMER (1986). Struggling student Cusack and pal Joel Murray (Bill’s bro) head to Nantucket for the summer to lose their minds and score some babes. Along the way Cusack meets free spirit rocker Cassandra (Demi Moore) and must save her grandfather’s land from the gleefully evil Beckersted (Mark ‘Niedermayer’ Metcalf) Also featuring Bobcat Goldthwait, Joe Flaherty, Curtis Armstrong, and so many more.
Then it’s time to pack up the clan with the hoi polloi, and head for the FL coast in Carl Reiner’s SUMMER RENTAL (1985). Exhausted air traffic controller Candy and the family (including son Joey Lawrence) head to Citrus Cove to blow off some steam, but Candy soon locks horns with stuck-up skipper Al Pellet (Richard Crenna), who can’t stomach the great unwashed, challenging him to a sailing showdown. Luckily, salty sam Rip Torn steps in to mentor our hero — and it’s another summer to remember!
